I wasnt watching TV too closely, but it was a program about services and prayers with speakers from Virginia Tech.
Among the faculty or management there was a speaker that .. well.. looked odd to me. Wearing a suit and necktie just like all the other male deans or faculty, but looked and sounded like a lady. I mean really like a lady. And the face was in no way a man's face.
Is this something I shouldnt be asking ? Not yet ?

I guess I should ask, what's your question? Or were you just surprised? Women have been wearing ties and blazers as part of professional garb for at least half a century. And they are part of girls' and young women's school uniforms where ever western styles of dress have become the norm for decades- think the prototypical school girl's uniform, the ascot is dead, the tie is in. *shrugs* It isn't a big deal. Would you have been surprised by a male faculty member wearing a kilt?

This picture does not surprise me, I know this traditional dress stuff and I also know I know the female business suit thing. But still there was something not quite 'normal' there. But again, I wasnt looking closely, it was only after the scene has changed that I thought about it I'll do some googling and maybe I'll find something. On other thought, I seem like I have nothing better to do.

You're referring to Nikki Giovanni. Not that I follow this stuff, but apparently she is a VERY distinguished American poet. Here she is in her youth: According to news reports the wacko murderer (I won't honor him by using his name) was in one of her classes a few years back and even then she knew he was messed up. The reports say that as soon as Giovanni heard of the shootings she suspected that it could involved Mr. Wacko.

The Kilt has always intrigued people from around the world. It has inspired fear and respect from all quarters around the world. Even the Germans referred to them as the Devils in Skirts. Ah the feelings of freedom as the kilt swirls around the knees, nothing could be more normal. Go on buy a kilt and when asked the inevitable questions from the opposite sex; What have you've got in your sporran? You can show them your freedom or that 'your Equipped to Survive'.

Exactlty Kenk thats the one.
Nighthiker, I have seen a few with 3-piece and necktie (sometimes in TV) but every time you see one it is obvious it is a SHE. However in this case, the hair was extremely short and the not-so-tight jacket among other things. You get the feeling that something doesnt fit.
Picture propoerties indicate that it has been taken in 2003. So, she has been dressing like this for a few years now. I guess genious people (artists and inventors) shoudlnt be expected to be dressed or look like the rest of us average folks.

Well... I can't say I've ever worn a skirt-type, one piece kilt. But a great kilt, 8 yards of light weight wool, is one of the comfiest things I've ever worn. And my bag of tricks makes a great sporran.

I did some image gggle search on "kilt" and got a few pictures. http://images.google.com/images?hl=ar&q=kilt&gbv=2There is something hanging in front of the kilt. Is that a fanny pack or a purse of some sort? If it is, then these guys are permanently prepared with EDC, or so it seems.

And a sporran IS a purse. It is thought that the original intention was to carry the day's rations, as kilts have no pockets. Then, some enterprising Scotsman discovered that if you dumped all the food out, it would hold a hip flask of his favorite beverage very nicely.
Now, I guess they hold credit cards, flashlights, car keys, business cards, iPods and cell phones.
Sigh. The olde days are long gone.
