My very favorite solo backpacking outfit is a Trangia 1/2 liter aluminum pot with lid. It prepares just the right amount of water for oatmeal and tea in the morning, and for the simple dinners I usually fix. I supplement it with a cup and plastic spoon.

For non solo excursions, I favor a military mountain cookset, vintage 1951 which features two 2-liter pots with matching frpan/lid. Light and sturdy - I have carried this for nearly forty years. I also occasionally pack a Bakepacker unit if I want to do some really elaborate cookig.
