I'm interested in replacing the heavy wood stock of my Yugo SKS with this stock.

Questions:
1. Has anyone else done this?
2. Was accuracy affected?
3. Was it signicantly lighter?
4. How was recoil (should I get an extra pad)?
5. Any thoughts on overall quality of this stock?
6. Any reccomendations on a different stock?
7. Does it fit the Yugo bayonet?

I want something to make the sks lighter and easier to carry through the woods.

being an ex-Army guy i would say keep the wood stock..
weapons get bashed around so much that even a wood stock
breaks..

I have one on my Chicom SKS. I can't remember the brand but it is very similar. It does not affect accuracy at all but it does lighten up the rifle considerably. Oddly enough it doesn't seem to increase recoil, at least to me, probably because it makes the rifle more "front heavy" compared to a wood-stocked model. I can't tell you about the bayonet as I removed mine (spike-style) when I bought it. I love mine and enjoy shooting it much more than a wood-stocked version.

PS: Before modifying any firearm make sure that you follow all applicable laws and regulations, no matter how stupid and ill-thought out they may be.

I don't have a SKS but I do have a couple of rifles with folders and wouldn't change them back to a full stock. It will take some getting used to but after that you'll love your folder.

Looks very similiar to the one I had on my 10/22 for a while. Reasonably robust, and I like a slightly shorter length of pull, makes it easier to track a running game IMO.

My only concern with side folding stocks is get one that locks when it folds, because nothing wakes you up when meditating over the sights quite like having the stock start to hinge closed as left handed shooter. Which is the whole reason I sold the replica paratroooper stock for my M1 carbine.

Being a lefty myself, that's good advice!

Take a look at the T6 SKS stock made by Tapco. I don't own one of these myself, but I have read some good reviews of them on another site.
Aim Surplus has them for a descent price. I'm not sure about your bayonet though.

A folding stock makes hiting the dirt hard on the elbows, and makes it hard to give an opponrnt a butt stroke and mean it.

Could you please explain this a bit more? I don't understand (especially since hitting the dirt for a guy my size results in broken elbows, speaking from experience...)

*edit* To clarify, the last time I hit the dirt (not holding a rifle) I broke my left elbow in three places.

As for buttstroking some Mutant Zombie Biker, I have other rifles for that sort of thing. I'm just looking to lighten my sks when going after feral pigs.

Big Al has the right idea..they put those wood stocks on
for a reason..as an ex-Army i can tell you that a rifle
gets really beat up..i was in the M14 army but the guys in
Nam told me they tossed their plastic M16's in a heap after
a mission and got new ones..i think folding stocks are a
after market gizmo..what you want is a simple,solid,hard
hitting weapon with no add-ons
