Save those net bags off of the Easter ham or turkey. They make good bags to carry when forageing, use it as a bear bag to hoist into a tree, or put suff you want to keep cold in the creek. Or you can use them to put stuff in after you breakinto your PSK.

Alternatively, you could use a hammock to carry extra gear on longer trips. It's a lot bigger and stronger and has more uses.

That is true about the hammock, BUT a net bag is only .10th of a ounce. 3in. long 1/2 in Dia. and will I know hold a 20lb. ham. and srill have a lot of room left.

Be careful; everthing has additional uses and if you are not careful you will fill your PSK, pockets, car and house with what is essentially trash. This is what people who are packrats do.

But I think you make a good point; many items including the net bag from dinner can be used to improvise other uses. This in itself is a great survival skill.

And it still smells like a 20lb ham.

That's called teasing if you use it for a bear bag, it isn't very nice.

Ironraven:

The Ham I got was enclosed in plastic, inside of the net bag, don't know why they even used the net bag.

"...don't know why they even used the net bag."

That's just a carry method that distributes the entire weight properly so they don't rip.

BTW, those bags make great sock-washers. Insert well-used socks, close, attach to a branch that is hanging into the river.

Here in south Lousy-anna, nylon zippered bags are sold in the stores for boiling the vegetables at a crawish boil. I used two of them last night.

They are great for carrying all sorts of things.
