Was reading the "bees" thread and thought of something in my area.
I have 5 bird feeders which I keep full all year long(although I fill them less after the baby bird season seems over)and have all kinds of birds;grackles,robins,blue jays,cardinals,finches,chickadees,
mourning doves,sparrows as well as mammals;rabbits(also breeding everywhere),groundhogs,skunks and squirrels.I live in a heavily developed suburb and am suprised by the assortment that a get-but there is a creek nearby(can walk there in about 5-10 mins) but I noticed a newcomer(maybe two),a red squirrel.May not sound like a big deal-but,for a squirrel is was rather small,clean and had after checking the net,all the right coloring for what I assumed it was.
Thing is they're not supposed to be in PA-from what I here they don't live really much more north than Virginia. I've also heard that in the SW that armadillos are being spotted further north than normal.Anyone else seeing any creatures(insects included)that are in locations that they are not normally in?

You mean like coyotes in Chicago Quiznoses?

With the masssive flooding in the field behind my property I have many many more seagulls than ever before. I haven't seen any dolphin yet though.

I recently saw an entirely white (albino maybe?) squirrel during a bike ride near my home. He was right in the town square.

Last year I had a coyote in my backyard. With all the deer around here, I'm not surprised they're making a comeback. I have noticed however, that with the return of the coyote, I have seen MUCH fewer rabbits around.

I squashed a possum down by the VT-Mass border a couple years ago. Stupid thing didn't have the sense to stay out of the road in the fog, it definantly couldn't read the books that say it shouldn't be this far north.

At least I think it was a possum. I've never seen a rat that big, and rats don't have pockets.

I live in North East Kansas and have seen armadillos only a couple hours drive south of were I live. I thought I was seeing things when it happened. But the biggest shock was after hearing reports for local hunters that they had seen “big” cats. At first I dismissed it but I have seen them myself while working out in the hay field. Talk about a big pucker factor looking about fifty yards away and seeing a cougar walking like you were not even their.

I have a entire famly of albino squirrels living across the street from me. The nice thing is i live out in the country and get to see alot of animals around.

Here in SW Missouri the armadillos are continuing to increase in numbers. Hit my first one a couple months ago at night. You can stradle turtles & sometimes even rabbits, but those things are way to tall - hit the brakes, but didn't matter. Also saw one couple weeks ago on our land when out cutting firewood.

Cougars are showing up more & more in Missouri, but I've yet to see my first one out in the wild.
