Yeah, your casting distance with the fish pen is going to be limited by the weight of the tackle, the length of the rod and how much slack in the line you feel comfortable casting with.
General Questions to which I'd like to find answers:
1. What pound test line comes with the FishPen?
2. What is the maximum test the FishPen can use in a worthwhile manner?
3. What length of line can I expect to spool on the reel depending on test and/or type?
4. What the heck is "Super Strong Alloy" anyway (LOL)?
5. How much weight/force/pressure can "Super Strong Alloy" take before it fails?
One thing I do like, as mentioned before, is the idea of having such a small rod and reel for a BOB.
I can fish with what is contained in either my PSK or BOB, but neither contain a rod, and I like the better casting accuracy that can be achieved with a rod versus line in hand. I also like the idea of the reel taking up and dealing with the line versus hand spooling it or wrapping it around a stick.
When I get a few checks in (sometimes freelancing sucks), I might pick one of these up and put it through the ringer to see what it can take and what can be done with it. Luckily they're offering a twofer, so if I push the test out and destroy one, I'll have the other.
Of course everyone knows that knowing how best to fish in most cases is more important than the equipment so I don't expect it to improve my survival fishing capabilities in any other area than casting, but I'm still interested. Regarding the equipment, as a goof a friend bought a Popeil Pocket Fisherman and used it on our annual Camping trip last year. He caught just as many fish as the rest of us, and actually landed the largest fish on the trip.
