If you were going out hunting and had your hunting equipment with you what would you take in a film canister that might prove very helpful if you were stranded for 4 days? This was a question in hunter's safety class.

Hey, that kind of question is right up our alley around here.
I'll say......matches.

I'd put water purification tabs and matches in the film canister.

Am I the only one to see irony here? A fully equipped hunter carries a firearm, ammunition, optics, hunting knife, a camera, assorted calls, game bag, Orange safety clothing and license. Then our nimrod stakes his survival on the contents of a film canister. An Altoid tin is small enough. LOL ;O). We have a hunting knife. The game bag is now an emergency shelter. Nobody is going to respond to gunfire as an emergency signal. You need fire and and signalling devises.

I pack some matches and cotton wool (prevents damage, serves as tinder) in a film container. I also wrap some duct tape around it. The tape is usefull and the container canīt be mistaken for containers with films. But this isnīt emergency supply.
I carry a first aid kit and a PSK as standard equipment. This should do the trick, if I really get stranded.
Maybe you didnīt plan well if that container really makes a difference.

Wow, I never carry anything but a gun, knife, rope and water. Rope size is determined by what I'm after. Of course...I am a lousy hunter.

Chris this is an uncharacteristically sharp reply here. "...nimrod..."?

Perhaps we can take this question in another light "given a fully equipped hunting trip with enough room to fit a film can what can I add to my gear that might give me an edge in an unexpected turn of events? What thing can I fit in a film can that, though redundant, would potentially be lifesaving if it is the only thing left with me after the bear chased me out of the tent before I could put a slug into him from the shotgun?

Just another point of view on the question.

I did not mean to come off sharp. If I have my scriptures right Nimrod was the son of Cush in Genesis and known as "a mighty hunter". I took a similar hunter safety class with the same question. It still bothers me to remember the cavalier afterthought to basic wilderness survival.

Wow an exercise in putting together a film canister sized PSK
If you already have a knife, gun, ammo, food, water, shelter...
My canister would contain
Wind & waterproof matches with striker
sparklite tinder or cotton balls with PJ
water purification tablets
condom / small water bag
