Here is something we do not often consider when in survival mode: watch what the animals are doing. This guy happened upon a great supply of deer meat because of a noisy flock of crows.

I'd make sure to cook the meat well, but to a starving man this would be a great find.

Good point NightHiker. And it could also be a good place to set up an ambush or trap for a predator like a bear, mountain lion, coyote etc.

I heard of a few eskimos that did this trick to catch a whole pack of wolves.

Wasn't there a Richard Harris movie where he chased a pack of wolves off a buffalo carcass?

I'll go look.

Yep, it was "Man in the Wilderness" made in 1971, based on the real story of Zack Bass I guess.

He made a lot of good wilderness type movies. His "Man Called Horse" ones were interesting, if a little embellished maybe.

Dang, I need to find that movie somewhere. I'd like to see it again. I remember one scene in it where he encounters an indian couple on horseback. The squaw is pregnant and in labor, and finally they stop and she gets off the horse, steps out into the woods, spreads out a blanket, grabs an old stump, bears down for a bit, then has the kid. She then gets back on the horse with the brave and the kid and they leave. That'd be one tough woman!
