Well, basically, it had Xerxes as this very flamboyantly dressed, bald, bald, Dennis Rodman-like guy who collected freaks. *scratches head* I thought Xerxes was short and bearded and Persian.

Then again, these Spartans left most of their armour at home and wore leather short-shorts.

Still, it was a good movie visually, and a loyal adaptation of Miller's work. Even if some of the details were a little off, if it gets five young men to study the Battle of Thermopylae and another hundred to see that a few can make a world of difference, then I'll forgive the little bits of quibble.

Don't go into the movie expecting it to be a historical representation of well... anything.

It did represent the warrior ethos of the Spartan society...

I didn't, but I also collect Miller's work.

It was warning to others. :P

Maybe we should section movie theaters like we do libraries: fiction and non-fiction. laugh

Here's an interesting article by a historian about some inaccuracies in 300.

Well, this was based on an actual event. Some details were changed to make the average man feel even less manly compared to the Spartans.

Although most of us should feel pretty inferior when compared to a completely accurate depiction of what was done at the Fire Gates.

It's a movie, designed to entertain. I do not think anyone is saying what is portrayed is the truth. What movie is the total truth anyway? "An Inconvenient Truth" is touted as the truth, but there is probably more fiction there than in "300."

Even history does not tell us the whole truth and nothing but the truth...because it was written by people. There is no such thing as a totally impartial and accurate person, who can be that at all times. All we really have are perceptions of truths, and like pretty much everything, YMMV.

Let's not forget the Alamo, either.

Maybe not the toughest bunch to face such odds, but they knew what was coming, and stayed anyways. Gotta give em credit for that.

The "boys" (130+) at the Alamo held out against 6,000 men of the Mexican Army for 13 days. They wuz purty tough, in my opinion!
