I really liked "300". Visually it was stunning. And damn the makers of the movie for manipulating my reptile brain and testosterone levels like that...

See it on the big screen! Awesome flick! Great story and it is about a true event that is lectured about in military learning institutions to this day.
It proves that a small, well trained elite force with the command of the most strategic terrain can match a much larger force; Location, location, location.

I understand the Iranians (Persians) are getting their "panties in a wad" over the movie, so it is probably worth seeing.

If you liked the movie you really ought to read the book. Well, actually 300 was based on a graphic novel but Steven Pressfield's GATES OF FIRE is probably my favorite novel.
Pressfield is a historian and although GATES OF FIRE is fictional, it's historically accurate and a really well written account of the battle of Thermopylae and the Spartans. Second what you say on Gates of Fire. Great book.

When do the Iranians not have their panties in a wad these days?
I couldn't care less what the Iranians think of what we say or do. They are about to get their backsides handed to them again, and still they haven't learned anything. Khaddafi was smart enough to learn that life is much easier when you cooperate, rather than antagonize.
I wonder what 300 well trained spec ops guys could do to them now? I suppose the Israelis will let us know soon. When was the last time they won anything? When they took biblical Israel captive? 3000 years is a long time to go without a win.
This "Humane Warfare" kick we've been on for the last 50 years really sucks. What's it gonna take for us to unleash the dogs of war and show the world why we are the best, again. I never saw a problem with "Manifest Destiny" or "Capitalistic Imperialism". So far as I can tell, no one else out there has a system that even comes close to what we have. To me, the best way to solve the illegal immigrant problem is make whole western hemisphere USA. At least that would be a good start.

Well, basically, it had Xerxes as this very flamboyantly dressed, bald, bald, Dennis Rodman-like guy who collected freaks. *scratches head* I thought Xerxes was short and bearded and Persian.
Then again, these Spartans left most of their armour at home and wore leather short-shorts.
Still, it was a good movie visually, and a loyal adaptation of Miller's work. Even if some of the details were a little off, if it gets five young men to study the Battle of Thermopylae and another hundred to see that a few can make a world of difference, then I'll forgive the little bits of quibble.

I didn't, but I also collect Miller's work.
It was warning to others. :P

Well, this was based on an actual event. Some details were changed to make the average man feel even less manly compared to the Spartans.
Although most of us should feel pretty inferior when compared to a completely accurate depiction of what was done at the Fire Gates.

Let's not forget the Alamo, either.
Maybe not the toughest bunch to face such odds, but they knew what was coming, and stayed anyways. Gotta give em credit for that.

The "boys" (130+) at the Alamo held out against 6,000 men of the Mexican Army for 13 days. They wuz purty tough, in my opinion!

Yep, we could use a few "Tennessee Volunteers" these days I reckon.
How about the 101st in Bastogne?
