California tried to help with that crop identification thing once, along I-5 in the middle of the state. They went along about a 100 mile stretch, posting nice metal signs on the perimeter fences identifying the crops on the other side. And never changed the signs. So a sign saying "Cotton" might now be in front of a tomato field, and next month a wheat field, and three months later a lettuce field...
