After getting some specs on products they sell I ask one of the principals about desert and/or semi-arid videos, books, etc. Well...we do sale demos just about anywhere they will let us show, including most of the major southwestern cities; however we do not claim to have any real expertise in arid or semi-arid climates.

I guess the question is, do they promote themselves as desert survival trainers or equipment designers, or just the guys who sell it?

I've written web pages that promote widgets of all sorts- I just make it look how the customer wants, make it say what they want, and work how they want, but don't ask me about what some of those widgets do.

I have not attended any of their sales demos, so I don't know. I do know, from a life time in marketing, that a half way smart marketing guy can easily present his wares in such a way that the customer assumes what ever the marketing guy wants without out ever having to say it.

So when he says he's not an expert, he's being honest. I'd rather he told me that he doesn't know other than book learning, than have him BSing me.

"We just sell the stuff. We aren't sure what it's used for..."

Interesting post - but I'm not surprised. How many salespeople, in any line of business, these days truly understand their product.
