I EDC a pair of Wiley X SG-1s.

Ever since working in a machine shop, having a hot chip fly off of a piece I was cutting on an engine lathe only to fly over the top of my safety glasses and land in my eye, I've been deathly afraid of losing my vision. I was being careless then, looking over the top of the glasses, but I learned my lesson.

Since, I've had a number of things bounce off of the lenses of the Wiley's and their multitude of predecessors that could have done some serious damage.

So yeah, I'd agree wholeheartedly with the idea that safety glasses are good equipment to have around; not only as part of a BOB or PSK, but as an EDC item.

I'm a huge fan of rose lenses, and they're about all I will consider, though they are getting harder to find. Today, it's an ancient pair of Suncloud Rose ski glasses. My daily sunglasses are Serengeti Hurikanu's with the vermillion lenses. Nothing works better for me than a rose colored lens, and what they say about looking at the world through rose-colored glasses is true. Everything really *does* look better.

The contrast increase, especially in rainy, foggy, or any flat light conditions, is awesome, especially for driving or tennis, because yellows really pop out at you. They also make green foliage look incredibly vibrant. I find that wearing my rose glasses during the twilight hours is especially effective while driving.

My ski goggles are Bolle's with a rose lens.

That said, none of these things are going to be anything like red.

I'm on mylast pair of unbroken Sunclouds (found four pairs at TJ Maxx a few years ago for six bucks each--they were about 80 bucks a pair back in the 80's), and the Serengeti's keep losing the screws that hold the lenses in the frames. If anyone can suggest other rose lenses, I'd appreciate it.

As far as safety glasses goes, ever since 9/11/01, I've kept both safety glasses and N95 particulate masks in my kits, at least two of each per person.

Does anyone know where you can get Safety glasses that go over regular perscription glasses?.

Try looking at an industrial supply house like Grainger. Welding shops like Air Liqiude or Airgas should have them. The welding shops have goggles that seal around your glasses. My friend uses them when he is doing prep/finish for welding.

Oops, sorry I wasn't paying enough attention. What you are looking for are called "OTG" or "over the glass" safety glasses or goggles. I know Uvex (the brand I usually buy) makes them. Google is your friend...search for "OTG safety glasses" or "OTG safety goggles".

Many companies also make prescription safety glasses. Inquire with your optometrist.

I have the sunglasses, which are the only ones I've ever liked that actually fit over my eyeglasses, and I also have a set they make for shooting/safety glasses.

You'll have to call their customer service number and specifically ask for clear polycarbonate. I love mine.

Ladies and Gents; +1 to all the above. For building evacuations,or windy conditions, or extrications, impact resistant goggles or swim goggles. For general purpose or EMS/traumas safety or splash glasses. Regards, Jim

I specifically bought my Oaklies to use as safety lenses. I found working on the ambulance that changing between sunglasses and safety goggles too bothersome. Many oaklies fit ANSI standards for impact resistance.

Thinking of grabbing a pair of regular safety lenses for my emergency supplies.

I'm also leaning toward carrying leather gloves (almost) EDC -- just toomany situations where hands can get cut/dirty.

Remember to look for the stamping of Z87.1 (The ANSI rating that is assigned to "safety glasses") on the temples. My famlies business sells regular safety glasses ranging from $.97 to over $100 for the "branded" glasses. A good pair of safety glasses really only costs $.97, but you will not look cool in them. The most popular sellers today are wrap around safety glasses. They come in many different lense colors, and coating options. In recent years polarized lenses have been approved and have become moderately popular. One of the most popular glasses that we sell is an indoor outdoor mirror. it is a mirrored coating on a clear lense which allows for great visibility indoors and protection from the sun outdoors. My recomendation is to forget about interchangable lenses, and buy some cheap safety glasses. That way you dont have to worry about trying to find replacment lenses, and if you loose them it is no big deal. $3-11 is the mid price range for a pair of safety glasses unless you are buying boxes at a time.

OTG (over the glasses) does not have much in terms of choice. Everybody knows the Uvex Astro spec and Ultra spec when they think of safety glasses ten years ago. If you want to go with goggles there are many new styles out that are reasonably priced and comfortable.

Prescription safety glasses are avaliable from many suppliers, all you need is a prescription and some $. They are not too expensive when you consider the cost of regular eye glasses.

On the topic of eye wash... READ THE BOTTLE they are water and saline solution. Depending on the activity several ounces are all you need to flush the object out. All eyewash is created equal!!!
