Does anyone have experience with the Tool Logic SL1 survival knife? For those unfamiliar it is a folding knife that incorporates an LED flashlight and emergency whistle.

http://toollogic.com/

I have also located a version that has a fire steel insert instead of a LED flashlight at :

http://www.moteng.com/Products/BrandItem.asp?sid=&BrandID=103&SectionID=14#1887

Moteng is a wholesale distributor not a retailer but it is the only place that I have seen this other model.

The knife blade is half serrated and is made of Medium Carbon Stainless Steel 420J2. The handle is Zytel.

Any information would be appreciated

Thanks,

Turk

"TANSTAAFL"

I think as long as you aren't relying on that knife to be your only source of cutting tool, lite, whistle or fire and if it's a quality piece that will hold up to rigorous use, then it'd probably be a fine aquisition to play with. Don't forget a sharpener.

Myself, I bought a good SAK, an LED light, a whistle with liquide compass and a Spark-lite firestarting kit for about the same money as they are asking for their knife.

I have never handled one, but it looks like an average light attached to a very average knife made from very average steel. The whistle is probably not that great either. You could do better getting the pieces separately. They might even be more useful separately. The main advantage is that you can grab just one item and have all 3 tools with you.

I concur that almost $40 price tag + shipping makes the value of these questionable. I had found the original model (the one with the light) for $23.97 + $4.50 shipping at Dirt Cheap Knives.com and as of today they have added the other two models; $17.97 for the water proof compartment model and $22.77 for the Fire steel model + of course $4.50 shipping and handling. These prices seemed to make these products more attractive for a combination product.

Source: http://dirtcheapknives.com/toollogic.html

Turk

"TANSTAAFL"

I recommend that you ask the folk at www.bladeforums.com about this one. From what I hear, they say it is not good at all. I cannot say, as I do not have one myself.
