If you consider firearms necessary survival equipment then this topic may be of interest. It reauthorizes and strengthens the recently sunset Crime Bill of 1994. To read the full text of the bill go to - http://thomas.loc.gov/ Input H.R.1022 I don't think this bill deserves any in-depth discussion in this forum. The topic is too broad. It is offered as information to those whom it would impact.

I found it interesting that the M-1 carbine is on the list, but the M1-A, a much more powerful weapon, is not. Which is good, since I really want an M1-A...

Not only isn't the M1-A not on the list, the M1 Garand isn't. The carbine is a dangerous weapon, but the rifle isn't! Just goes to show the lack of knowledge of the laws these people draft and vote on.
Just like a bayonet lug and a collapsing stock are reasons to make an AR-15 illegal.

Actually just because a weapon is not on the list does not mean it isn't included check out sub-section L of the rule below. Basically, it comes down to whether or not the Attorney General thinks it is the type of weapon that should be banned or not and if the Anti-gun folks get in the White House you can bank on the new Attorney General being Anti-gun too.
`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'.

If I had to guess, the high power shooters lobby (everyone seems to have a lobby these days, why not them too?) got the M1-A exempted (thank goodness, I may win the lotto someday and be able to afford one), while the jackrabbit hunters lobby didn't have the power for the carbine to be excluded...

Man I hate those sub-sections they are always sticking in. Kind of like those riders that have nothing what-so-ever to do with the original bill...

Wonder how Ruger feels about the resolution being numbered "1022".

In some lawenforcement ten codes, 10-22 means cancel. I hope that is an omen for this bill, and not the weapons...

Just like a bayonet lug and a collapsing stock are reasons to make an AR-15 illegal. What? You never saw a drive-by bayonetting?
