I just received some paracord I ordered.
I want to use some of it to make a bottle carrier, using slatt's knot.
This bottle carrier will be attached to my EDC backpack, so I will always (and discreetly) have some cord available.

As I plan it, I could either use :
- 1 piece, 23m long, or
- 2 pieces, 14m each

Which solution would you choose ?

P.S.:
a) the 2 x 14m design would allow me to take the carrier apart, use one length of 14m for whatever I need that cord and still have a usable carrier with the remaining piece of knotted paracord.
b) OTOH, if I need more than 14m, I will have to tie some sort of bend (?) to unite the two lengths and it won't be as stout as one single 23m cord...

Size matters...use the longer piece and if the need arises you can always use the knife in your EDC to cut the cord later.

I carry myself 20m.paracord, devided into 4 5m. pieces.

I would go for the longer also...

I would go with 2 lengths of 14m. If you do that, you'll have a total of 5 more meters of cord and still be able to use your carrier if you only need one piece. 14 m is like 42 ft right? I don't foresee you having to use much more than that at one time anyway and a double sheet bend would hold for just about whatever use you might have for joining the two pieces of line, short of rapelling.

so 2 pieces of 42 ft = 82 ft, verses 1 piece of 69 ft. Go with longer and learn some good knots.

All else being equal, I would prefer a single longer piece. But let's face it, 14 m is about 50 feet. How many situations are there where you are going to need a piece longer than that, and in how many of those will it be critical to have a single long piece (rather than two pieces tied together?

Weighing the ease of carrying two fairly long pieces against the very limited inconvenience of not having a single very long piece, I would recommend carrying two pieces, not one.

I'm open to being convinced otherwise, though :-)

The lenght of cord is a first guess based on another item "waved" using the Slatt's knot.
Maybe it will be 2 x 13meters vs 26 meters... don't know for sure right now.
So the length's difference is not really an issue.

Like both of you, I too think 13 or 14 meters is quite a good piece of cord and should cover enough possibilities.

OTOH, I like to hear other's opinions....

By the way, I don't envision rapelling down a 20 (or more..) meters frontage/cliff, using a mere paracord.
OTOH, if I really have to, 14 meters, with two pieces of paracord... well... there always is a first time, no !?
