Does anyone know how to make rope soled sandals or where to find a pattern? I picked up on the idea from a book I'm reading and now I've got the idea in my head. I found several sites that sell them and a couple of poor patterns and instructions. Any help on this would be appreciated.

However you can buy them in Belgium for 0.50 EUR to 2.00 EUR for a basic standard pair.
(unless it's a very fancy pair you want => then the sky is the limit).
I don't know if you can find them locally.

One word of warning: they don't like wet conditions.
