Is anyone here take aspirin daily as preventive treatment of heart attack? Aspirin is proven to prevent the formation of fat plagues on artery veins.

i think "prevent" is too strong of a word.."helpful in preventing" might be better..a baby aspirin a day is about
right..talk to you Dr..they also thin your blood..and could
have other side effects..

I take two "baby" aspirin per day, under Dr.'s orders. I had five heart bypasses two years ago and the aspirin is part of a comprehensive post operative strategy. I never had a heart attack and no heart damage. Just some symptoms that I was smart enough to respond to and had what turned out to be very successful surgery. I'm now in the best shape of my life and travel in the wilderness, camping, hiking on a regular basis (lifelong habits)

I have been on 85mg, once per day, for seven years. Dr's orders after a heart attack. Started out on a regular aspirin once per day, but had complications.

After a 2003 angiogram I was prescribed aspirin and a variety of other meds. I take the aspirin (85mg) dose daily and seem to have no problems. Yesterday I had a colonoscopy (colon cancer runs in my family) and I appear to be the first to not have polyps removed. May be a coincidence, but I understand that aspirin may reduce the chance of colon cancer.

Like any drug, it should be used in accordance with your doctor's advice. It's not a cure-all, but it may be a low cost tool to reduce some of the health risks.

Aspirin in low dosages has been proven to help prevent blood clots and thus help prevent heart attacks. The best advice I have read is in this thread, consult you doctor.

I have had many patients tell me that they stopped taking their aspirin (and other meds) because they still had a heart attack... "that stuff doesn't work!"... Of course, the 3 packs of smokes a day, the 20,000 calorie a day diet and the daily TV watching marathons that cause their 3rd and 4th trip to the cath lab.

If you are worried about your heart and health... eat right, exersice and listen to your doc (given you have a good one).
