Aloha Burncycle,

I haven't even thought about comparing it to an Esbit, et al. I was just using it as a piece of tinder to start up a fire, not stand alone.

But as far as an Esbit tab goes, I think the burn time is probably about half. I get about 4-5 minutes out of the "candy" but I really couldn't tell you about output.

This is version 2. Version 1 had a piece of birthday candle in there instead of the cedar with wax. Version 2 works much better!

For firestarting, the "candy" works fine. Maybe when I have some free time, I will try one in an Esbit stove and see if it will heat up or boil water. The Esbit tab doesn't really work well for boiling, only heating.

I can start a fire with this in minutes, even when things are damp. When wood is damp, I will use this in a birch bark tinder bundle with a few pieces of fatwood to supplement the other gathered kindling.

Lights up hot and fast.
