Lets see some packing lists for when yall travel!

What is your trip purpose? Stuff you always take, sometimes take etc. etc.

I am working on as universal a packing list for travel as I can. And then having "module list" so to speak to add to it. Such as international, business formal, hunting, fishing, hiking....

I am trying to start with a clean slate.

So far for city travel, i have ordered the MEC Walkabout and for hunting/outdoor travel I have a Kifaru MMR.

Let the suggestions begin!!!

Normally what I carry on all trips

Winter time,
I always pack my polypros, AMS Bivy sack, Ski cap, extra socks and clothing, ski glooves, head lamp, and an extra lighter in my bag.

In teh car I have food, sports drink, FAK, insulated boots, road signal kit, Gerber LMF II which has my PSK strapped to it, and the usual car gear.

In the summer I DX the polypros and other cold weather gear and repace them with a waterproof jacket.

If I go off roading, or in to more remote areas I'll increase my gear lists to suit the threats.

I travel to a lot of places far from home for work so off the top of my head this is the special gear I take.

If flying:
Photographers vest containing
1. bright orange poncho (shelter/signalling)
2. 20' of white paracord
3. pea-less whistle
4. wallet-sized fresnel lens
5. small Maglite flashlight
6. dogtags for IDing my body <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
7. Sharpie marker
8. small notepad
9. pen with built-in laser
10. playing cards
11. P-38 can opener
12. travel pack of antibactirial Handiwipes
13. bright orange bandana
14. spare socks/underware in ziploc bag
15. gum
16. travel spool of dental floss
17. Earplugs/sleeping mask
18. headphones compatible with airline sound system
19. Digital camera
20. Tiny mp3 player-FM radio thingy
21. If possible, maps of area I'll be flying over (USA, Canada, Mexico, Russia, China, etc...)
22. Zipties for "locking" luggage
23. Toenail clippers for cutting zipties
24. compass (2)
25. polymer signal mirror (Starflash?)
26. small 1st aid kit
27. small travel-roll of toilet paper (need your own in a lot of countries)
28. Chapstick
29. flat-pack of duct tape

In carry-on bag:
1. 1 liter of water purchased after security checkpoint
2. Trailmix snack food
3. small super-absorbent towel
4. cell phone
5. small shortwave radio
6. travel alarm clock
7. camera battery charger
8. double "AA"-sized Maglight
9. Paksafe steel-lined travel safe
10. Army survival guide
11. Purell hand sanatizer
12. toiletries

In checked bag:
1. Leatherman tool (if legal in location) fastened to inner bag strut via zipties.
2. "Hobo" style knife (if legal in location) ziptied to inner bag strut.
3. Work safety gear: Nomex jumpsuit, steeltoed boots, etc.

I pick up matches and a lighter as soon as I can after landing.

The stuff in my vest is there mainly in case the plane goes down. I want to be able to signal to searchers and stay protected from the elements.

Once I'm at my destination I keep abreast of local and world events with the FM and shortwave radios.

Money belt???

That's kind of a new one on me? Could you explain a little more, what advantages do I get out of it (besides holding money) compared to my normal belt?

Thanks,
Meline

To hold your gold Krugerands and raw uncut diamonds, of course. Just kidding. But they are primarily to hold money. There just isn't room for much else.

It's more important overseas, generally, where pickpockets are a bigger concern in many cities (especially if they can identify you as a tourist or foreigner). A money belt (I'm assuming teacher means just the belt, not the little pouches you can strap on under your clothes) won't hold all of your documents, but it does give you a pretty pickpocket-proof place to store some extra cash for emergency use. I've had friends/acquaintances have fanny packs (even worn in the front) and even one of those money pouches (it was under a sweater, but not tucked down into the pants) cut off or cut open by pickpockets.

A Hobo knife is a large pocket type knife with a minimum of a knife, fork, & spoon. when you swing out the fork and spoon, the "pocket knife" comes apart, down the middle and you have a pretty decent fork in one hand and a spoon in the other hand.
The new versions are made of stainless steel and mine has the aforementioned as well as a corkscrew and leather punch. I keep mine in my mess kit. It fits in both my US military and West German (Wehrmacht) messkits easily.
It is one piece of equipment that I truly enjoy having with me.
Keep your eyes open at gun & knife shows and you will eventually come across 1 of the originals made during the 20's, 30's, & 40's by Case.
I am not making an endorsement of Wally World but they can be found there (Chinese manufacture) for under $5, if I remember correctly.

Besides a few $20 bills, if you are not flying, a hacksaw blade will fit in most money belts. The last money belts that I saw was back in the late 60's @ a western wear store. Who else might carry them, I have no idea.
