Here's the same link to the Wired story.

Chitosan has been around for quite some time. It was a hot weight loss product on infomercials a number of years ago. Pop a couple capsules of chitosan powder and supposedly it would absorb the oil/fat in the food so that it wouldn't be absorbed--ergo lose weight! Uhhhh...right.

I think these bandages are a much better use of chitosan than as a weight loss gimick. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It sounds like we need to have a test- this vs Bleed-X vs QuickClot.

All we need is a sample of each, and willing test subject....

If you're going to do some performance tests, I suggest you include the common pressure dressing (Carlisle/battle dressing).
In my experiance, if direct pressure won't do it, you're probably screwed. The next stage is the tournquet, which presents further problems.

Sam Medical (Sam Splint / Blistoban) sells something called Celox that is a chitosan based hemostatic product.

Quick clot still creates heat and must be removed in a short period of time. Celox does not create heat and can be removed from a wound more easily.
