From what I have seen of him, he will probably say or do something dumb...

Yes.... Society's "role model" (Oprah) and the world of survival's "instructor" (Bear).... perhaps just a little tooooo much.

So did anyone watch this? My wife, after watching him drink the fluid out of elephant dung one night on Leno, refused to watch Harpo today with him on (we rarely watch her show anyway)...

I watched it, yes. The only real recap they had from his "Man vs. Wild" show was when he pulled himself out of freezing water, crawled across the ice, got naked (which is probably the primary reason they chose to recap this clip… survival's always more interesting for women if there's a naked man involved), and dried his clothes and himself off with a freshly restarted fire. The rest of his interview included the following:
  • Him talking about eating zebra meat on one of the shows.
  • He and Oprah talking about lions in Africa.
  • Him talking about his experience breaking his back in three places and him being thankful to not only be able to walk, but to be able to do all the activities such as climbing, etc. that he loves.
  • A piece in which he showed what items in a woman's purse might be used for survival purposes with a little improvisation.

All in all, he didn't do anything dumb on the show, although his presentation wasn't anywhere near long or streamlined enough to carry a lot of actual survival information. But then again, "Man vs. Wild" is kind of the same way. There is useful information in the show, but only if you filter out the unnecessary risks he takes and are smart enough not to recreate the stunts (like jumping into freezing water just to show how to get out and dry off) he does in order to show some of the survival techniques. (It's too bad there are so many people that are horrified by the stunts he does that they don't give a second thought to the useful information that was the premise of the stunt in the first place.)

I agree with Cameron. Does anyone know when the second season is supposed to start?
