Oh, those were cleaned New Years weekend, I'm not too worried about that.

Did that. It tried to start, but wouldn't quite turn over, so it got jumped. Didn't light, let it charge for ten minutes off thier car, failed, let it charge again, motor made two attempted to crank and started clicking.

I agree. This happened to a girlfriend's car, oh, 10 yrs ago. We were driving from Dallas to Washington DC when the starter failed at a roadside stand in Tennessee on New Years' Eve in 30 degree weather. It had stuck before, but usually a good whack with the maglite would unstick it. Fortunately, I had one of them newfangled bag phones borrowed from work and was able to get an wrecker to tow us to Chatanoooga, 100 miles away. It took a cold few hours for the tow truck to get to us

This is one of the events that got me interested in this whole emergency preparedness subject.

Ironraven,
Now that sounds like poor connections at either your battery or the charging car's battery. OR, cheap jumper cables. It's true, poorly made cables with light guage wiring can fail to jump a dead battery.

Again, your symptoms indicate baterry and/or connection problems. Can you get the battery out and have your friend take you down to the auto parts store? They can test it there for you and sometimes even charge it.

Good luck

If you have someone to jump you, or one of those jump youself gizmos, and you really really need to get the thing started, you can hook the black cable from the jumper to a ground, and the red to the little post on the selenoid that has the big cable running to the starter on it. That will bypass both your battery and the seleniod. As long as the starter is OK the engine should then start...

I'd rule out cheap cables- there was a nice spark when I grounded onto the frame.

But the idea of a bad wire isn't a bad one. I had a corroded terminal with this car about two years ago.
