I noticed that MSR has different fuel canisters for the Jet Boil and Pocket Rocket. Both are the same gas, not sure if they are mixed to the same preportions.
Anyone know if the canisters are interchangable? Couldn't find the answer on the MSR site.

Thanks, Dave

Well more searching turned up some info. Because of liability stove manufacturers recomend using their fuel. The industry standard is EN 417. The rundown so far.

MSR Pocket Rocket Isopro cannisters are OK for the MSR Jetboil.
MSR Jetboil Jet Power cannisters are OK for "other" stoves.
No specific models were listed.
Snow Peak Giga cannisters are OK for MSR stoves.
Couldn't find any info for the orange colored Brunton cannisters.

As a practical matter, if the threads fit, it will work just fine. The real difference comes down to size and fuel mixture.

Jetboil makes smaller canisters so that you can fit it in the jetboil pot. If you have a larger canister, it will still work, but you will have to carry it separately.

The fuel mixture does not make one whit of difference in warm weather. However, when things turn cold, it can make a big difference. Those canisters hold a mixture of mostly butane with a little propane thrown in. For cold-weather use, you want the ones that use iso-butane instead of regular butane. Iso-butane evaporates at a lower temperature. Of course, the better mixture costs more (go figure).
