14) "Switchblade knife" means any knife that has a blade which opens automatically by:
(A) Hand pressure applied to a button or other device in the handle; or
(B) Operation of gravity or inertia;
This is what i'm talking about. Look at the "gravity or inertia" wording and you can see where a prosecutor has tons of leeway. My BM folder will open by inertia....if I flick it... as will many folders. So, IF a prosecutor wants to get sticky, he can "try" to classify my knife as a switchblade.
Concerning the blade length issue of this post: is it the length of the "edge"?... or is it the length of the hilt (from tip to handle)? Unless a statute or code specifies, then theoretically a prosecutor could charge a person for having an illegal 3-1/8" blade (for example) in a jurisdiction where maximum blade length is 3".... even though the knife owner may have bought the knife advertised as having a 2-7/8" blade, measured from tip to length of the honed "edge".
