Doug talks a lot about valcum packing his kit, i'm not sure what he means and how to do it. At the moment I am having to seel my small packages in a little plastic and fuse it together with a lighter, this is certanly less than satisfactory, can anyone else give me ideas?
There are a number of companies that sell vacuum packers/sealers. I have two different ones. The first will seal any type bag. However, the seal is not that great. The other requires the use of their bags, since they are designed with cross-hatching that allows the air to be vacuumed out. The bags, if cut carefully can be washed out and reused. We generally freeze meats for storage and then wash the bags to use for non-food items. Pete
Vacuum packing requires a sealing equipment. If you donīt want to buy it, you could use ziplock bags. I use them because they can be closed after using or checking the contents. Of course this system doesnīt prevent "borrowing".
