I was once told by someone that I should put dental floss in my psk to use as string, would this be a good idea or could I use the space for something more worthwhile?

Dental floss is compact and strong. It is also virtually impossible to hold any knots due to the wax. I would find a quality string to enclose. I keep mine for heavy duty sewing repairs, fishing line etc.

Look around for unwaxed - if it is still available.

Unwaxed dental floss is most certainly available. It is far superior to the waxed variety for dental hygiene. Wax on the floss was the result of some "rocking chair science" many, many moons ago. Speculation was that the wax would be deposited on the teeth thereby protecting them from attack from oral bacteria and the acid they produce. Obviously the wax does not adhere to teeth nor render any sort of protection. In reality it merely lubricates the dental floss reducing its cleansing or scrubbing efficiency. For those who have problems with the unwaxed variety shredding or breaking, make no mistake : you need dental care !!!!! Dental calculus (tartar), damaged restorations (fillings), poorly contoured restorations and dental caries (decay) are among the common causes of fraying or breaking. That said, using waxed floss is much better than not flossing at all. And really, it isn't necessary to floss all of your teeth daily, only those you would like to keep. Louis Tobia, DDS

I prefer thin Fast Flight. Fast Flight is a material for making bow strings. It is really strong and will hold knots pretty good. It is also quite resistant to abbrasion (much better than dental floss). I also use it for sewing leather.

Neal,<br>the material is now sold as Fast Flight (sorry just received a new brochure this morning, bought mine a couple of years ago). The manufacturer should be Brownell. Usually shops for FITA archery equipment sell this item.<br>Maybe you can also ask a local archery club, if you need only a small amount.<br><br>Max

Perhaps some of the thread used in a Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl would fit the bill. It seems fairly strong and is impregnated with wax. I keep a couple of Speedy Stitchers around for repairing heavier weight gear.<br><br>A needle or awl and some of the strings from a length of paracord should also be useful for repairing things. I found a source that sells paracord in red so one has a choice of three colors (that I'm aware of) to avoid that awful problem of having the stitches for your patches clash with the rest of your gear.
