I just read an article about this site in the LA Times and it looks like a great resource. It was started in 1994 by a Harvard Univ. Doctor and is apparently one of the best and most accurate resources for monitoring infectious disease around the world. from their website:

Quote:
ProMED-mail - the Program for Monitoring Emerging Diseases - is an Internet-based reporting system dedicated to rapid global dissemination of information on outbreaks of infectious diseases and acute exposures to toxins that affect human health, including those in animals and in plants grown for food or animal feed. Electronic communications enable ProMED-mail to provide up-to-date and reliable news about threats to human, animal, and food plant health around the world, seven days a week.

from what i understand, since its not a centralized system, it can report outbreaks much more quickly than the CDC or WHO. what do you guys think?

That's an interesting site! I'm kicking around the idea of subscribing to their avian flu email notification. Good find.

ha ha ha, no kidding <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> just like most articles of substance, this one was buried way back in the paper past all the add and tabloid nonsense. someone once said, the best way to get good information from US papers is to read it from the BACK to FRONT. turns out he was right!
