Today as i was doing some errands with my GF i happened to notice a sign that said Gransfors Bruks. After we finished with the errands i decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about with these axes.

It wasn't really a store but a distributor of GB axes and also Stihl logging safety workwear (the chainsaw chaps and boots etc). They had a small showroom with their axes displayed and they are certainly beautiful axes they look very well made and look (to me) like quality tools. The woman that was showing us their wares was quite nice and really informative. The best part was my GF and I each was given a pair of KLAR 400 g Merino Wool socks. I also got one of their AXE books for free. I was quite impressed with these free gifts as I didn't buy a thing there (the prices are kind of out of my financial range at the moment). I am going to try out these socks and if i really like them i may replace my whole sock drawer with them as finances allow.

For those interested in GB and KLAR here are the websites that are on the leaflet and packages

I have been lusting after a Gransfors-Bruks small forest axe for a long time now. Actually got to handle one at a shop in Fairbanks a few months ago. Those things come from the factory sharper than most knives. Can't wait 'til Aug, going to probably get one for my birthday...

yeah i saw a few i liked except for the price tags. Guess i will have to rely on my Snow & Nealley trapper's axe and my hatchet i have had since i was around 5 yrs old. My grandfather thought it would be a nice gift for me and it sure was until I cut a few trees down that i wasn't supposed to. But then again that';s what being 5 is all about learning from your mistakes and finding out how it feels to stand for supper.

For those on tight finances, WETTERLING is another scandinavian axe company. They are available through www.ragweedforge.com The modest price buys a decent quality axe compared to most junk. Ragnar even posts a link to a direct comparison.
