I often feel very drowsy after eating major meals: breakfast, lunch or dinner. I eat lots of meat & carb in my diet.
Do you guys feel drowsy after eating major meals? Am I the only person with this problem. I can't open my eyes if I want to. I have to take caffeine pills to stay awake.

Have you ever had yourself checked for hyperglycemia, or any of the other blood sugar related problems?

Welcome to the "getting older is a pain in the butt" club!! I call this phenomenon the "after lunch sleepys". It works great with my work schedule but plays hell when I am home. This is part of the voyage we call "life". It occurs when more water has passed beneath your keel than what remains in front of your bow. All you can do is adapt & improvise! Good Luck!

Somehow Picard (and I say this with the kindest intentions) I get the impression you already know the answer to your question.... and have always known it.
The body works hard at digesting food, especially when we eat a large meal. This "hard work" digestive process robs blood flow (and hence oxygen) from our brains, because the body is dedicating resources elsewhere (to the digestive organs). Your brain says "I'm tired".
By the same token, your body will feel the cold more after eating. Once again, instead of circulating blood flow where it's needed to keep you warm, it's working on digesting that meal you just ate.
As my fellow compatriot President Bush might say "It's hard work.... hard....it's just hard work!"

I am well into that club, and the only time I have get sleepy after a meal is if I have a nice strong toddy before, or during, the meal.
You might want to see a doctor for some tests...

I had blood check up for hypoglycemia. I am not short of sugar. My blood test indicate sugar level is normal. I am not diabetic either. When I get drowsy after a meal, manager assume that I am lazy. I don't see anyone else feeling drowsy after eating lunch. I always eat small lunch but it feels like a big meal according to my stomach response. This is really weird. I never heard anyone mention hyperglycemia. I know the definition.

I'm glad to hear that you've been checked and cleared of blood sugar issues.
Something you can check is whether the carbs you're intaking are quick-burning simple carbohydrates or slower-burning complex carbs.
You can also check to see if you are gluten-intolerant.
Really, there are a lot of issues that this could be a part of.
>>>Disclaimer<<< Regarding health, I'm not a doctor. I'm just relating to you you what I did for similar problems. You should consult your physician on these issues. >>>End Disclaimer<<< LOL
What does your typical meal consist of?

I eat lots of meat & carb in my diet. Heck Picard, it possibly just could be tryptophan then if you eat lots of turkey and other poultry. It can increase your brain level of serotonin and/or melatonin which are sleep inducers. It's in a whole bunch of other foods too.

I get the same thing. I can barely stay awake after lunch, and have even dozed off at work. Complete lethargy. I know I need to exercise more for better circulation. A single cup of coffee in the morning helps a bit.
Do a Google search for "sleepy after eating" ...there are some explanations there
