I used to have one of the older versions of the XGK, and loved it. It only has two speeds, off and on, but when on it is ON. I am a boiling water kind of backpacking cook, so that worked for me, and the multi-fuel thing is great, for the very reasons you listed. You do have to change jets in the stove to go from one type of fuel to the other, but the jets, and a tool, came with the stove...
