I will be around a little more since my towboat now has internet access. Now I can keep up with things a little better. Happy New Year to all!

Operating a towboat ... that is sooo cool!

I lived for a while Dubuque, Iowa and got a chance to canoe the Mississippi River around there quite a bit. I also spend a summer working on the Missouri River doing research for the Army Corps of Engineers.

I don't think my wife even knows that my life-long dream has always been to canoe the length of the Mississippi River.

I actually have a Master's Degree in Limnology - which is the study of rivers and lakes - kind of like inland oceanography. I love being on the water, but my career took a detour and these days I am stuck sitting in front of a PC at work.

Working a towboat ... that IS cool!

Read the book in the Minnesota Historical Society -
"WHERE GOES THE RIVER"

My mother and her deceased first husband wrote about their canoe trip from Lake Itasca to the ocean. Lots of old pictures before the dams. I am guessing ~ 1930.

Thanks for the lead on that book. It sounds good.

Here the web site of a person who did the length:

The primary link is via cell phone with a Secondary SATCOM link. It is a little slow iniatially loading but moves at a decent rate thence onward.
