In addition to an old SAS smock (wich contains my PSK, notepad, pencil, lighter, mimi maglight + spare batteries, field dressing, compass, bit of toilet paper, shamagh and gloves )
I made a plan (more a thought really) of packing a rucksack for an emergency when i quickly got to leave the house. It would include:
-Tough outdoor clothes
-4 litres of water (2 bottled and 2 in my hydration pack)
-A 18cm fixed blade knife
-48 hour rations
-sleeping bag
-stove + spair canister
-metal mug
-first aid kit
-local area map
-mag light 2D cell torch
-brew kit
-hyperthermia blanket
-basha
-£150
I would put my smock under the lid so I wont forget it and tie my walking boots onto it too so I won't forget them or worse have to go back into the house to grap em.
I also expect that I have my mobile phone and wallet on me already.
I got all the kit, now I just need your opinion if it is worth the carrying.
thanx

It looks good ! Now the best self check is to put aside a weekend or 48 hour free time. Pick up your kit and walk out of the house. After 48 hours you will have a list of what you did and did not need.

Hi Ryan

Check out the little LED lights, you can even get them at Millets!

Knife size, law says you have to have good reason to carry a knife with a blade longer than 3 inches. With the kit that mentioned I think you might look a bit suspicious to the police, poacher, etc so you;d have to think whether your reaosn would be good enough to ally there fears.

I guess the main question is what kind os situations might promt this quick getaway? House fire, floods or other weather damage? chemical spill? In these situations where would you be going? Unlikely to be the local forests ( although I do love to wild camp there) If the house was damaged what kind of documents etc would you need to get your life back on track quicker.

Justin

Chris,
again great advice, and will do it, I have wanted to do it 4 a long time but cant get any one 2 join me. But I have spend 2weeks in a row sleeping outside (in the morning walked back to the house) to see what its like to be on your own at night. After a 2 nights it becomes relatively easy to share your basha witht the mice.
reinhardt
the knife is a worring thing, the rucksack is generally designed 4 the first 96 hours. if there was a national emergency i'd generally need to carry a bit more. To include my passport isn't a bad idea, just to save it.
thanx
ryan
ps i will go to millets and check em out
