That is kinda brilliant. To get everyday people to generally be better prepared, they don't want to carry olive drab military backpacks everywhere. But putting items into a benign everyday carry is a good idea. What are some other objects you could stash things in? Headrest of your car? Your shoe?

Another item mentioned in the Teddy Bear kit was a sleeping mask. That makes sense. When things are stressed and you're not able to follow a regular sleeping pattern, anything that makes getting rest easier is good. I'm a light sleeper and usually carry earplugs to use on the plane or even camping with certain snoring friends. I've never used an eye mask but I can see it being helpful if you can only rest in the daylight. I would bet that displaced hurricane victims in a shelter would use ear plugs and eye masks.
