I'm gonna play devil's advocate here for you, no offense intended. That must be one big cargo pocket. All of that stuff in one cargo pocket? Of course I assume each kit listed is made for one cargo pocket, right? Otherwise you're gonna have a hard time convincing me short of pictures. A 25' X25' tarp in a cargo pocket must be pretty flimsy. What is it made out of? When considering making such a kit, you do have the military cargo strap built into these pants for the cargo pocket on each pants leg that you fasten around the pocket (and your thigh) to secure it to your leg, don't you? With all of that weight you can keep adding to a kit, you will need it to prevent chafing.

"...That must be one big cargo pocket..."
I've gotta agree with that. I love pockets, I pretty much live in BDU's (but not cammo) or civy cargo pants, and I can not imagine carrying that much stuff in them. Even if strapped to the leg, the bulk and weight would probably drive me nutso in a hurry. I am not saying that you might not be able to stuff all of that gear in (I would like to see the pot from the mess kit), but it just doesn't seem practical to me...

It looks to me like you are using both thigh cargo pockets, at the least.Having those pockets that filled out is going to get you snagged while you are walking/hiking through the woods and I think, will be a minor distraction walking/hiking on nice trails. There are many places that those bulges are going to make life on the trail difficult.
I prefer to keep the side cargo pockets for soft lightweight things (gloves, watch cap, spare bandannas), but that's why they make Fords, Chevrolets, etc; Everybodys different!!

The point of the exercise is the size of storage space not what the storage area actually is. I came up with the cargo pocket just as an example, if you have a bag of similar size then it is the same thing. Admitedly I do not have the 25' tarp but I can see that being larger than I had originally planned. Just go with it, sheesh <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
