I imagine he has; I don't see an article where Doug has specifically mentioned what to carry in a bug out bag. What actually constitutes a bug out bag and what should be included.

In my purse I carry the AMK C.P.R. Medic, modified Pocket Medic, Pocket Survival Pak, EMT shears, Victorinox Classic, Res-Q-Me attached to my key chain, a black 2D Mag-Lite, cell phone, an Energizer portable cell phone charger, travel size Advil, Kleenex pocket pack, SPF 30 Blistex, my medication and a few personal items.

There are many threads regarding the BOB and what different folks include in there's. It's probably best to do a search. Do not confuse a BOB with the EDC gear you listed. A BOB is basically a bag you have made up to carry you through the immediate hours of an evacuation. You've got 30 seconds, what do you grab as you leave your home?

I don't have a BOB. Around here I have no where to go that I wouldn't take my truck, so I trump the short term BOB with a 96 hours kit in the back of the truck. No matter where I go, if a disaster happens, I have that kit in the back of my truck. The idea is to use that gear to make due until I can get through the mess and back home. The only reason I'd bug-out is if I wasn't home when the disaster hit. Then I'm bugging-out to >> Home.

Think about where you live and where you would go if you had to bug-out. What will it take for you to get there? Gear, food, water, clothing (boots/shoes/socks et al). How are you going to carry all that gear. What is there once you arrive? Do you have extra gear, food and water there or will you be dependent on someone elses good will? Once you make plans on where to go, cache supplies there.

One guy had a BOB that included more than my 96 hour kit, he had a small daughter and needed to travel two gas tanks worth of distance to another state -- that's unrealistic. If you're bugging out so are lots of other people and the gas stations will soon have no fuel. On that train of thought, when you do bug-out with the hoardes of other folks, don't expect to get the same MPG you get when you drive 60 MPH on the interstate -- think rush-hour.

My plan is to bug-in, and use the supplies I have and the roof over my head to get through. Others have different situations.

EDC is good, and just as personal as BOB, but BOB is more specialized to. He (or she) is built to fit your needs. Specifically, why are you bugging out, how far are you planning on bugging, how long are you going to bug, and what do you need to do that and still have it be carriable?
