I drive a 2003 Ford Expedition and really love it seats 6 comfortably and gets around 23 mpg took family to Disneyland from SLC and the kids each had their own seat ( made for a great ride DVD player w/ two screens and headphones) really quiet DW and I talked all the way w/o real inturupptions

Thats the advantage of frame based vehicles, the center section is very rigid and the front and rear crumple. I've seen too many unibody vehicles crumple in the center, saw a Honda a whole back that got hit in the passenger door and it caved in and hit the driver. I'm glad I wasn't a passenger in that car.

I debated between the Forester, the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V when I bought my last car. My mother-in-law has a Forester and it's solid, but it's not nearly as roomy or as comfortable as the CR-V I settled on. I got a 2004 and it's been utterly reliable and very comfortable. That might be a good lateral move, cost-wise, if you like your Subaru otherwise.

Toyota 4 Runner 4x4 isn't bad. I've had some 750+ mile days and survived.

cadillac cts. smallest of the line. 24 hwy / town mpg. pass-through from trunk for long objects. large trunk space. and a smooooooooooth ride. not as expensive as you might think.

How is the reliability?

I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, while it has been trouble free since I purchased it new, now with 33,000 miles, I would have to say that the seats are some of the most uncomfortable seats I have ever had in a vehicle. I have the 8 way adjust front seats and no matter what you do it is like sitting on plywood without any support. The rest of the vehicle has loads of nice features. I am talking 4+ hours of driving and you want OUT!! No lateral suppost at all and hard as a rock!
As for a comfortable SUV, I have not found one since my old Blazer with actual spring seats. Most all the new ones are foam only. Hope you find something comfortable!

leased it two years ago. had transient problem with 'check engine' light coming on. dealer had the car total of three days over two week period - gave me rental car free - yeah cadillac - and they never did anything definitive. no problems before or since. but i do have to put gas in it. regular. runs great. and when you step on the gas it goes. fast.
