Choosing a right knife is like choosing a date for a prom. We all have different tastes and likes so everyones choice and recomendations will vary. <br><br>I have a Boker spirng loaded knfie that I keep in my pack. My psk has a Gerber multi tool lite. Now, I used to carry around everyday Buck Cross Lock that my father destroyed. I didn't like the knife in the first place due to a flimsly clip so no big loss. Originally as you guys remember I asked about boot knives but due to response that I got I decided against it. So now as a replacment I'm looking at Chinese Folder from Spyderco. Anyone had an experience with that blade? <br><br>Matt

I'm not sure what you mean by "chinese folder". Spydercos are made in Seki Japan. They were the first of the quick opening ( manual) folders, are of good stainless steel and zytel handles in the lightweights and nicely ground. The lighter versions are slicers only. Any prying will result in a snapped blade. I carry one constantly. If you need to cut a rope in a hurry they are superb.

At first glance, with its alloy handles and liner lock, I would think it'd be ok.<br><br>But for a "one knife" I would go with a framelock. Sebenza, Benchmade Pinnacle, etc. <br><br>Spyderco has also come up with a tab lock, which is essentially a double-sided liner lock, which is featured in the Bram Frank Gunting and some of their new small knives. These custom designs are interesting, but I think their basic knives aren't durable enough and when I one bought of their early custom collaborations, a Jotsingh Khalsa design, I was very disappointed with the quality of the knife. You couldn't even adjust the tension of the blade pivot and the blade became loose over time. That really freaked me out as Khalsa's own work is incredible, if he knew knives were being made like that with his name on them I'm sure he must've blown his top.<br><br>That said the more recent Spyderco knives seem very well put together.

Yes, you guys were right about Spyderco. It's a good company but unfortunatelly knife that I chose doesn't feel right for me. Handles are not comfortable and even if blade is sturdy now I have a feeling that it will get very loose after some hard use. I already had an experience with Buck knife lock breaking on me and that costed me a lot of grief and pain. So when I was trying out the Spyderco's Chinese Folder I aslo tried one of the Sebenzas and it felt good. Unfortunately salesman claimed that he only has a limited edition runs and he will not get any "plain" ones any time soon. Any recomendations on good place that I can get it online?<br><br>Matt

I just got a plain large Sebenza. I lost two (small classic ones) already in the past (not my fault) and I was trying to avoid history to repeat it self. But after lookign out there I couldn't find anything that would fit my hand right. So I handled a large Sebenza and decided to give it a try again.
