I drive to work 30 miles one way. My present car, Subaru Forester has supremely uncomfortable and hard seats. Other then the seats Forester is just great.

What is the most comfortable 4 door car/suv that you have ever driven?
I am looking to buy a car for comfort, not miles/gallon.

Comfort for one person will be different from comfort for another. For example I don't like the small cars where you have to lean the seat back, I prefer to be more sitting up nor do I like the extra road feel of rack and pinion steering as feeling all the little cracks and bunps makes me tired after an hour or so of driving but others like them. Your best bet would probably be to take a test drive in a few different models and see which fits you best. Most dealers will let you take overnight test drives.

I am just trying to narrow down the number of test drives I need to do. Which car models did you find particularly comfortable or uncomfortable?

I haven't driven it but I did sit in a Nissan Murano at the NY Auto Show that had leather seats. The guy getting out of the car told me that I had to try the seats. They were very comfortable.

Seems you are not asking about 4x4s in particular.

Our 2005 Honda Pilot is very comfortable. I drove it from Texas to Minnesota in two days because I didn't need to stop and stretch my legs every hour. I'm 6'5" with a 38" inseam, the Pilot was the first vehicle that I've ever been able to drive long distances without pain.

A vehicle with comfortable seats may have some other drawback. If you like the Forester, just buy new seats, such as Recaro. They should be cheaper than a new vehicle.

I like my Honda Element. It is pretty comfortable, and the seat fold up out of the way in the back for a huge amount of storage space, vinyl florring that makes cleaning pretty easy and you can lay all the seats down to make a bed (I have not tried this, yet). Gets around 26 miles to the gallon and you can stretch out in the back seat even with the front seats in the rear most position.

I love the room and versatility of my Chevy Avalanche 4x4. I have a 2003 model with the lower body cladding. Gas mileage isn't the best, but I can carry 5 real-sized adults, a bunch of stuff in the back and tow a fair-size trailer - all at the same time. And yes, it is quite comfortable.
