Would a product such as dermabond be a good addition to the medical pack in a BOB?
I think it is a good addition. It's expensive but well worth it. I've never used it but my Doctor recommended it and gave me a tube for our kit.

Many hunters that I know carry regular superglue and swear by it but I have my reservations about using a non-sterile product in or on an open wound.

I would caution all who carry superglue /dermabond / cyanoacrylate adhesive against using the glue to close wounds unless you are sure that it is clean or has been cleaned properly. An open wound can be cleaned and dressed to heal (albeit with a scar) but a dirty wound if sealed up will inevitably lead to infection and wound breakdown, or worse still deeper fascial infection.
General advice to all using glue to effect skin closure :
1. Clean the wound thouroughly
2. Wait for 24 hours and clean the wound again.
3. If no evidence of infection and you wish to close the wound, you can do so with the attendant risk (albeit reduced) of subsequent wound infection.

Never , ever close a dirty wound.

Dermabond is a product that is used for the repair of MINOR wounds. There is no justification for suturing a wound in the field, nor is there a need to do so.
All one needs to do in the field is remove foriegn matter and blood, prep it with an antiseptic such as betadine and apply a dressing. An suitable antibiotic would be nice in other than a minor wound, something active against staph and strep like Cefzil, Augmentin, or Keflex. Zithromax and others are not effective.
The dressing should be replaced and the wound cleaned daily. If there is no infection after three days, the wound can be sutured at your leisure.
Under NO circumstances should wound repair be attempted in the field for any conceivable reason. THere simply is no reason to suffer the extremely high risk of infection and complication.
