Interesting sidenote on cannibalism in survival situations:
As different parts of the body shut down from starvation, in a latter stage the "moral" centers of the brain shut down and things like cannibalism and any repulsion toward the thought of it fall away.

At least that's what a show that covered famous cases such as the Donner Party and others made note of on the Discovery Channel.

The term "moral" above may not be the right word... It's all that is coming to mind at the moment...

Unfortunately, they also mentioned that once the body is sufficiently nurished and begins to function normally the act of cannibalism in some cases caused an enourmous amount of grief in survivors. In others, the people who had to resort to cannibalism just looked upon it as something that had to be done for them to survive.
