Here are a couple more links. If you happen to live by an Air Force base or Naval Air Station, you could go to their open house, they often have all of the pilots survival gear on display. One time I even got a printed list of the issue and suggested opional survival gear from them...

hey jim :a real good referance book as to what is packed in U.S. survival kits is a book (UNITED STATES COMBAT AIRCREW SURVIVAL EQUIPMENT) by Michael S.breuninger isbn#0-88740-791-9.....a very ,very good book with pictures and lists on about every page...covers w.w.2 to present contents of kits ,packs,seat kits etc...lots of great info....vince g. 11b inf. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Second that, it's a fantastic book. Lots of great photos and descriptions.

I'll third that. I don't own it, but spend several hours in Barnes & Noble once reading thru it. You want to know it, this book will tell you...
