Any largish hardware store has better. Find the 55 gallon can liners, the heavy duty 5mil ones, and they usually have them in a dark greyish-green. Slit the bottom out of one, and curl up to retain heat. Or, slit two, join them with duct tape, and stretch out.
That being said, tube tents really do suck. As much as I loath a conventional, single wall lean to, they still might be better than a tube tent. Carry a poncho and a small mesh hammock, and get the sleeping bag mods made your liner, it works at least as well.

for the weight/ cost/ bulk, you might be better off packing a small tarp.

How do you suggest setting up the tarp? How about when it is raining and the ground is wet?
When people really sleep in them I have seen the taco (throw it on the ground, lay down and pull it over you) and burrito (Make a tube tent with one end closed) but not as just an overhead shelter.
I don't know that the lean-to with a reflector fire is all that great. You have to keep getting up to keep the fire going. I'd rather have a fire bed!
Thanks!

Well, the fast and easy down and dirty way would be to put about 1/3 of the tarp on the ground (to sleep on), and run the other 2/3's up at about a 45 degree angle to block the wind and rain. A nice fire on the lee side is a bonus. Of course, if the wind shifts you've gotta get up and reposition. If you go to the equipped home page and scroll down to Tarp Shelters-An Introduction, you will see a lot of different ways to rig a tarp...

If you go to the equipped home page and scroll down to Tarp Shelters-An Introduction, you will see a lot of different ways to rig a tarp... I've seen it. It is not very helpful. It's like looking at a dictionary; all the words are there but you still have no idea of how to write a sentence. There are no helpful suggestions of what works best for what situation. Well, the fast and easy down and dirty way would be to put about 1/3 of the tarp on the ground (to sleep on), and run the other 2/3's up at about a 45 degree angle to block the wind and rain. It's still a lean-to. You get a ground cloth but I've never seen the wind only blow in one direction. How is the lean-to better than a tube tent to keep you from getting wet? My son (BSA Life scout, Order of the Arrow and Troop SPL) likes to take a tarp and form a burrito: 1/3 on the ground and then form a tube tent with one end closed.

To each his own. Personally, I will take a real tent over either any day...
