It started raining here in Houston Saturday night and is supposed to keep raining until sometime on Tuesday. As of noon on Monday we've had about 16" of rain. Suprisingly enough, this is common in Houston.

Yet people still try driving through flooded streets and at the least lose their cars. At the worst they lose their lives. Two girls were found in a flooded SUV this morning. What senseless deaths. The water on the road in that spot was over ten feet deep (low area under a freeway interchange). Similar spots in Houston can end up over twenty feet deep in this sort of rain.

I think DD will get sick of me pointing stories like this out to her as she grows up. Oh well, she'll just have to deal with it.

I used to live in Las Vegas, NV. A major road there, Charleston Blvd, dips low under a RR trestle. An average rain will fill it up (no drainage), so there are very large markers on both sides, a ruler with big numbers showing how deep the water is in feet. They are easily visible on the approach to the Dip, but people keep driving into the deep water. Many of them are residents.

Stupid is as stupid does.
