Just curious to know if anybody here has the "Survivorman Season 1" DVD(s) and what your opinion is about the set. It's available here for about $40 +$7 S&H, though the Canadian distributor says it would take 3-4 weeks to reach US addresses.
I bought 2, one for me one for the GF. It has all the shows, full one hour version plus some "making Survivorman". Worth the money in my opinion. Interesting person, Les Stroud.

Being "Cable-less in Seattle" my only option was the DVD. I picked up the only one I have seen on eBay in the last year.
My son and I sat down and did a hard core Survivorman-a-thon. We plowed through the whole thing in one sitting (OK, there were a few trips to the can and some snack breaks).
I really enjoyed it. Not your typical BS TV. I have watched it several times since then.
I had planned on watching it then selling it back on eBay, but it is staying in my collection.

Saw the show for the first time tonight much much better than Man Vs. Wild with "bear". It's a great show to pickup tips and ideas but remember the best training is getting out and doing it yourself even for a day.

I received the DVD set very quickly from Canada, only took about 5 days.
Comments:
1) very high quality & production values 2) 9 regular episodes + 1 "behind the scenes" episode 3) Les does great work and goes to a lot of trouble to produce this series 4) Taking the time to watch the episodes provided lots of food for thought regarding survival. I was able to "gel" on some ideas, and got new ideas from watching Les' adventures. 5) common themes: fire is important, improvisation is key. These are things we already know but seeing them in action was good. 6) there are breaks in each episode where a commercial would have run, but they don't spend any time after the break to bring you up to speed. I like this because I get peeved at today's reality programming where the first 2 minutes after the commercial is spent updating people who might not have been watching from the beginning.
I feel the DVD set was very worthwhile. I hope the Survivorman series continues, and if it does I plan to buy future DVD sets of the new episodes.
