I need an auto compass, actually a truck compass. I had two several years ago, but was never able to get either one to work right. Does anyone have any experience with this? I could use a recommendation on a brand.

Do a search on "motorcycle compass". I saw one once that was designed to work in a metal rich environment.

Can be calibrated for magnetic fields such as a radio. Won't work on a GoldWing - that's too funny!

My wife had bought me one for my truck and it worked VERY well. Very easy to calibrate and the batteries lasted much longer than I expected. If you're handy I'm pretty sure the same company makes a version that can be hard-wired into your vehicle so that it draws power from the vehicle and even lights up.

You might think about a GPS. Our Magellan Meridian, loaded with their Toposend software, tells me where we are going, where we have been, what is up ahead, your speed, has a compass accurate to one degree, and more. I have tried several vehicle compasses before, none work as well as the GPS...
