Yes, I did. Thanks for the info. One thing a FAK needs is 1 or more large compress type dressings to stop serious bleeding.

The triangular bandage could be used for larger trauma. But I agree a field-dressing is a good addition to a FAK.

BTW: long time, no see Vince.

I really liked the tip about having a cell-phone for 911 in the kit. Granted you may not always be somewhere in reach of a tower, but it gives that old phone I've got with a busted LCD screen a use beyond a glorified battery charger (my daily-use phone is the same model). Bit of a 'Coulda had a V8' moment...

Glad you liked the article. The mobile phone, once a luxury, is largely considered a necessity now.

Good points -- I'm adding a cell phone w/ charger to my car kit.
I like a big tupperware ( actually its a rubbermaid box) for keeing a first aid kit together.

My first aid kit for the car is a nylon "range bag" I got from Cheaper than Dirt or some place for about $12. It has six external snap flap pockets that I use for the stuff I need most often; ziploc bags with a stack of 4x4's, a roll of Kling, and a pair of surgical type gloves in each bag; GI battle dressings (I like them because they can soak up a ton of blood, and are nicely sealed for protection 'til you need them. But sanitary napkins make a nice cheap substitute); a pocket mask with one way valve (my track record for CPR is zero, but I will keep trying 'til I get someone with something other than a major closed head injury); several triagular bandages and band aids, a 2" elastic bandage (good for holding a dressing in place on some parts of the body). Inside go more 4x4's and Kling, more gloves, a large trama dressing, some vasoline gauze, a couple rolls of surgical tape, a pair of those super neat EMT scissors, little odds and ends, and a BP cuff and stethescope (paramedics and doctors like to know what victims BP has been doing).

In the glove box is an old cell phone and cig lighter cord, just in case the one I always have on my belt should die or get lost.

My rules to myself: NEVER work on anyone without gloves on, NEVER do CPR on a stranger without some kind of protection, hence the pocket mask in the bag, and one of those little folding plastic ones in my pocket all the times...
