Perhaps it would be a good idea to include a warranty statement in survival kits, such as what you might make up for friends.

“This survival kit is guaranteed to save your life or your money back. If you are in a survival situation using this kit and are never found or are found dead, the manufacturer will refund your purchase price. This offer is only good for the original user, not his next-of-kin or the executor of his estate.”

That opens one up to all kinds of potential lawsuits from once "former friends"

Having a survival kit is no guarantee that the person will survive the situation at hand, especially if the person doesn't take the time to make sure they are familiar with the equipment and its usage.

Eh, you know where I'm going with this. The world is litigation-happy... Damages, Loss of Life, Wrongful Death, Class Action Suits... Blah, blah, yadda yadda, yaaa...

Somebody's going to say "Little Johnny" had an unreasonable expectation that he could go out into the wilderness in nothing but his Underoos and survive like he was part of the "Swiss Family Robinson" because he had a PSK with a guarantee in it.

Theres a reason military paratroopers and civilian smoke jumpers must pack the chute they qualify in.
