I just received my new Leatherman P4 Squirt. I'll be adding it to my BK10 sheath pouch. It looks to be real handy. But I'm somewhat blade-ignorant. It appears that the blade has an edge on one side only. Is this by design? I'm worried that if I add an edge to the other side I will be making an already fragile edge even more so. So I'm thinking I may just sharpen up the one side only. What did you guys do, if anything?

Sounds like you're describing a "chisel grind". I have a P4 Squirt myself, but I've never found a use for it's small blade, never really looked at that part of it, and didn't even realize it had this type of grind.

Grinds: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grind

Below is a sharpening FAQ. Scroll way down the page and you'll find some info specific to chisel grinds.

Before opening the thread, I was prepared to recommend immodium...

I do have leatherman squirt but have not used it much.. I personally would avoid sharpening it on the other side.. Also, I'm not sure if you want to carry it with your BK10.. if you lose the BK10, you loose both blades. Everyday carry, its on my keychain. If I'm hiking and such, its on my lanyard with my whisle.

Thanks for the links. They are very helpful. I'll maintain the chisel grind, especially since I don't anticipate using the blade much either.

Yeah, I edited my first title as it was a bit vile-sounding.

You make a good point about not wanting to keep all your eggs in one basket. I avoid that by seperately carrying either my Buck PBS (when hunting) or full-size RSK (when hiking), so I'll always have a backup regardless.

Thanks for the post. I have an S4 Squirt and I've wondered the same thing. Because I'm a teacher, I don't want to carry a larger blade into the building (my Charge Ti is locked in my car). I find the Squirt to be a nice little tool when carrying the heavy duty stuff isn't possible.

I wonder if you could get away with carrying something like the Juice? I have a KF4 for my urban EDC. It is almost exactly mid way in size between my old Wave and my new Squirt. Although not as "cute" as the P4, it is still relatively small and inoffensive looking, and is much more robust.

[color:"black"] [/color] I thought about it, but the S4 Squirt was cheaper on sale. With the extra money left over I could bear some additional gear (like matches, see other thread ) When not in the classroom, I EDC the charge ti.

I usually do after eating Taco Bell
I like the blade on the squirt, I've found it to be quite nice for its size. The wire strippers on the EL are nice too. I'm trying to find a little case that will hold all three.
