Just an FYI, for those who like the combo guns. My local gun dealer was just informed by Savage that they will be discontinuing the model 24 series combination rifle/shotgun.

I find it odd that they would discontinue it considering the average price for a used one on Gunsamerica is well over $400. If true, I hope that somebody else picks up the line. I have a 24 in .22LR/20 Ga. and love it.

Re, the carbine - at first I thought you had mounted skate wheels on the thing, LOL. Then I realized it was on a coat rack.

I started off with a .357 revolver, then bought a lever action in the same. Then a snubby in .38, and so on. I seem to have homed in on a selection of .22 equipment and .38. It's really reigned in my desire to deviate, though I understand the limitations. I have a milsurp bolt action or two, a shotgun, and I feel pretty much set. In my mind, there's a lot to be said for commonality of ammo, and "dual chambering" of .38/.357 and others.

Actually that was a set of towel hooks in the hotel room - it was the only place I could find to get the gun up and get a picture.

I've since modified it a bit - added a vertical fore grip and bought a 1911 to dedicate to the use.

As for failures - a properly built and properly broken-in 1911 usually won't fail. Even in pretty grimy conditions. I guess that's why so many of the military and law enforcement groups like them. Plus, they're extremely simple to repair in the field, and parts are readily available.

No one's made it yet. I figure if I mention this concept enough times, people will pick up on it, and when it turns into a chant, one of the makers will listen.

As far as regualtion, won't be any where near as bad as it is for a traditional double rifle, becuase I'm talking an over-under. Sure, different ballistics, but I'm pretty sure that if the sights will thump a rabbit with the .22 at 25 feet, the .30 caliber will hit in the heart-lung area on a deer at 150 feet, which is a lot longer than I'd ever want to push a .410 slug.

If you wanted to get very fancy, set up the front sight like a bow sight, with two seperate and distinctly colored fiberoptic dots for each of the barrels. But it would mean a very tall front sight, not sure if we want that.

The other option is to glass it using a see-though mount, say 2x or 3x, and zero the optics for the .30 caliber, while the iron sights are zeroed for the .22.

Different zeros is the one potential pitfall I can see with this, but nothing that can't be worked out. As far as actual, in the field windage compensation, for most hunting distances, it isn't as big a deal. This is a survival/truck gun, not something for bagging big sheep at 800+ yards.

I would prefer the plain old Remington 870 in 12ga. The ammunition can vary from birdshot & #6 for rabbits to buckshot & slugs for larger game, i.e. the two legged predators. However, the ammunition is rather heavy.

Ow, that would spoil his whole day. Next time aim at his mouth. Much more effective for a one shot stop.

I do not recognize the combo gun in the picture. It looks like a .22 and .410. Can you shoot .45 Long Colt in it? I like the red front sight.
